Accountability
Check out below how the current board refers to relevant issues to Febrasgo and its members
Embedded within the DNA of Febrasgo is the objective to promote, support and strive for the technical and scientific improvement and ethical aspects of the professional activities of gynecologists and obstetricians, based on respect for women’s health and well-being. Our entire operation is guided by the principles of ethics, excellence, credibility, innovation, transparency, representativeness, knowledge and respect. The historical importance of Febrasgo is enormous, as I highlighted previously. In summary, we act with dedication and conviction to provide our members with suitable conditions for good medicine, in addition to fair wages. We prioritize high-level training, ranging from undergraduate studies to extension and continuing education. We work in all spheres for quality women’s care and are an active social force, always willing to enlist in just causes for health and democracy.
PROFESSIONAL ADVOCACY
Through our Professional Advocacy Department, Febrasgo acts decisively to defend the interests of gynecologists and obstetricians for proper compensation and decent conditions for exercising their specialty, in addition to providing guidance on ethical-professional aspects, among other points.
Professional advocacy also seeks to create conditions for the applicability of scientific knowledge produced and disseminated among members, and promote adequate compensation for their work.
Therefore, Febrasgo interacts with national institutions, such as the Brazilian Medical Association (AMB), Ministry of Health-Conitec, National Regulatory Agency for Private Health Insurance and Plans (ANS), Federal Council of Medicine (CFM-Technical Chamber for Gynecology and Obstetrics), Federal Public Prosecutor’ Office, Federal Judiciary, Brazilian Federal Council of Nursing (COFEN) and the Federal Legislative Branch, among others.
ADVOCACY II
Febrasgo has participated in public hearings to incorporate procedures on the list of the National Regulatory Agency for Private Health Insurance and Plans (ANS). It is also a leader in the fight to review the importance of surgical assistants, for quality in medical teaching, undergraduate programs, medical residency, graduate programs and against the indiscriminate opening of new courses.
Among many other fronts, we are currently preparing a series of recommendations on controversial topics to guide gynecologists and obstetricians and give them greater security.
These recommendations will be announced in October and will cover a set of five high profile issues, especially common in the media, such as obstetric violence, episiotomy, home birth, obstetric availability and childbirth care.
The goal is to inform gynecologists and obstetricians on how to proceed in certain situations, including practical measures to protect themselves when exercising their profession and to ensure proper patient care and safety.
This material will also be widely disseminated at the 22nd FIGO (World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics), which will take place in Rio de Janeiro from October 14 to 19.
PLANNING
We work with management indicators and have made substantial investments in the last few years to improve our administrative processes. The current board is working on issues such as austerity, safe investment, and results. Recently, in a general meeting held in São Paulo, on June 16 to 17, it was decided to approve the concentration of management, and consequently Febrasgo’s senior management, in the city of São Paulo, where the president’s office is currently located.
The move was advantageous on various fronts, in terms of management issues, enhanced capacity of administration and human resources, streamlining of decisions, lower process costs and a better investment/benefit ratio.
Therefore, special projects, partner relations, support for the board and other aspects will occur in São Paulo. We have an excellent staff working in the São Paulo office, with important results and ease of access to our main suppliers, partners and to the Academy in general. As a result, we are moving forward daily in attracting members, faster processes and greater savings in our overall accounts.
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
We have 15,000 members and a permanent policy for recruiting new members and winning back old partners. Febrasgo is one of the largest specialty associations in Brazil, and membership is spontaneous. Even though we're already an immense institution, our goal is to keep on growing.
SCIENTIFIC CALENDAR
In the current administration, we are maintaining the Brazilian Congress on biannual, itinerant basis until 2019. Starting in 2021, there will be fixed congresses in Rio de Janeiro every other year, with regional conferences on even years. This year, FIGO 2018 (World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics) will be held in the city of Rio de Janeiro, from October 14 to 19. The Congress occurs every three years and this will be its 22nd meeting. After 30 years, it is returning to Brazil. The last time it was held in our country was in 1998, chaired by the highly missed professor Aristodemo Pinotti. It is the largest world congress in the area of our specialty. Approximately 10,000 Brazilians and foreigners are expected to come. The program of the congress will be graced by some of the biggest names in the world from our field. For this reason, it will be a milestone for Brazil, as well as for Febrasgo that has taken a leading role in its organization and is very proud to receive an event of this size in our country. It is an unparalleled opportunity for us to attend, here at home, this World Congress of Gynecology and Obstetrics held by FIGO.
PUBLICATIONS
We have scientific update programs, in addition to many others for strengthening the field of gynecology and obstetrics. For example, since 2016, we’ve set in motion the following projects: 1st Febrasgo Strategic Plan; implementation of new digital tools; a test in the area of expertise of assisted reproduction; changes to the graphic design of the journal Revista Femina; repositioning of the RBGO journal in English; change in the TEGO practical test; creation of a competencies matrix; cervical cancer screening protocol in partnership with the Ministry of Health; launch of more than 20 books from the Febrasgo Guidelines and Recommendations Series; drafting of 120 Gynecology and Obstetrics Care and Treatment Protocols 2018; and creation of the Individual Progress Test, to map the quality of the training of our residents.
MANAGEMENT
Febrasgo's future is mapped in accordance with our bylaws: the main decisions are the product of extensive discussion and deliberation in the annual meeting. On a daily basis, the board and our executive managers examine and forward other demands, taking into consideration the general policy of austerity and safe investments and results. We strive to protect the assets of our members and the image of gynecology and obstetrics in Brazil.
RECORDS
Febrasgo is very attentive to its past, present and future. Thus, we invest in initiatives to ensure the excellence of gynecology and obstetrics services, such as the TEGO, the title of specialist in gynecology and obstetrics. Our entire scientific-political history is recorded in our annals, nowadays on electronic databases, since a history of such social and political importance must be preserved forever. It represents the heritage of our members and all specialists in Brazil.
